Prague Airport – Simulation Study on RWY 06R-24L layout

Detailed description of project

As a consequence of the increased demand on traffic, Prague Airport intents to build a third runway within the next years. In order to get a reliable baseline for several decisions in this context ARC was contracted to do an extensive Evaluation of safety, capacity and operational efficiency. Important goals of the study were the evaluation of the taxiway system concerning safety and efficiency criteria as well as a detailed analysis of the planned centralized de-icing area regarding the sufficiency of the amount of pads and the taxi times considering the holdover times.

For the investigation a comprehensive CAST 3D computer model of PRG airport has been build. All possible runway operating modes were simulated and multiple parameters reflecting e.g. low visibility procedures were considered. For several scenarios extensive data have been produced and analysed.


All work has been done in close cooperation with the client. Besides detailed report including conclusions and recommendation several 3D CAST animations of the future situation have been provided in order to support the analysis and communicate the conclusions to decision makers and management.
